OCEAN THERMAL ENERGY CONVERSION
OCEAN THERMAL ENERGY CONVERSION
Abstract:
Non-conventional sources are turning out to be significant sources of energy for humanity. With global warming a certainty, it is imperative that we turn to non-polluting and renewable sources of energy. One such source of energy is Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC). Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) is a process that can produce electricity by using the temperature difference between deep cold ocean water and warm tropical surface waters. OTEC plants pump large quantities of deep cold seawater and surface seawater to run a power cycle and produce electricity. OTEC is firm power (24/7), a clean energy source, environmentally sustainable and capable of providing massive levels of energy.
Introduction:
Ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC) is process that can produce electricity by using the temperature difference between deep cold ocean water and warm topical surface water.
OTEC is an energy technology that converts solar radiation to electric power.
OTEC untilzes the world’s largest solar radiation collector.
The ocean contains enough energy power all of the world’s electrical needs.
Definition:
Ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC) is a process or technology for producing energy by harnessing the temperature differences (thermal gradients) between ocean surface waters and deep ocean waters. Energy from the sun heats the surface water of the ocean
